I couldn’t think of a better time to sit and write, not because it is something, I am particularly good at or feel its inspirational what I am going to type, but because it will help me.
When we are feeling so much less connected to our loved ones, friends and our work families and communities but also because I think it is important to unpick what we are all doing at the moment; as on national community. The scale of the stress every singles individual is under; and those stresses I’m very sure are being felt by so many of us; working as key workers or not working. Whatever role people are playing in protecting each other and our NHS is very hard for everyone and one with massive responsibilities.
We all hear and realise the pressures on the NHS or the government or large business and food supply, but what about the pressures on our children, the elderly that for many are feeling more isolated than they have ever felt in their lives while being terrified that this evil virus is even more dangerous to them and terrified to fall sick on their own or not have what they need. For the parent’s trying to reassure their families whilst providing for them and also becoming educators over night and many now on lower wages or uncertain incomes still with so many commitments and responsibilities, the students who have had what they have been working for all year halted and stopped, the community workers not knowing what to do for the best and trying to reassure massive amounts of people while keeping charities and organisations running and inventing almost daily new responses.
There is so much uncertainty on food and for a country that we know already had high numbers of food insecurity so many more people with or without the financial support are so sadly finding themselves in these positions for the very first time.
Many of our most vulnerable community members are now even more vulnerable than ever before. The lack of human contact even for people who didn’t think it would bother them or that they didn’t feel it was something that was important, so many are now seeing that it makes so much difference and I worry for mental health as well and we already know all the stats of the groups who won’t ask for help already but worry about how many more this is effecting along with so many of our almost hidden issues and concerns in our society.
